A woman from Howrah attempted suicide after her boyfriend allegedly backed out of a promise to marry her, despite being in a relationship for two years. The woman, from Jagatballavpur, accused the man, who resides in Bakul Tantipara, of making repeated promises to marry her while engaging in physical relations over the course of their relationship. When the man suddenly refused to marry her, she became deeply distressed and staged a protest outside his home. Following this, she attempted to commit suicide by hanging herself from a tree near his house. Local residents intervened and managed to prevent the act.
According to the woman’s account, she had informed the man about her previous marriages before they started their relationship. She alleged that despite knowing her history, the man continued to pursue her and assured her that he would marry her. However, after two years, he allegedly began to refuse the commitment and withdrew from the relationship. "I had already told him that I was married before. He had said he would adjust and live with me," the woman stated.
The man, in contrast, claimed that he was unaware of the woman’s prior marriages at the time they began their relationship. He said that upon learning of her past, he decided to distance himself. He denied the claim of being the father of her child, stating that he had asked her to provide proof of the assertion, but she was unable to do so. "When I found out about her previous marriages, I wanted to move away from her," the man said.
The man’s family supported his decision to end the r
elationship, stating that the woman’s marital history played a significant role in their son’s choice. They also mentioned that the woman had allegedly demanded a sum of fifty thousand rupees, which further complicated the situation. The case has raised concerns about transparency in relationships and the emotional toll of broken promises. Authorities are investigating the matter and have not yet determined the next steps in the case. Legal action is still under consideration by both parties involved.
